New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who has been alleging deterioration in law and order in Left-ruled West Bengal ahead of next year''s assembly poll, tonight met President Pratibha Patil over dinner. However, Trinamool sources termed the hour-long meeting as a "courtsey call". Terming the law and order situation in the state as "dreadful", Banerjee has demanded advancing of the poll and that the Centre should direct the state administration to secure illegal arms from areas that have witnessed political violence and book those guilty. Alleging that CPI(M) has been carrying out atrocities against political opponents in the state, she demanded that the state administration should set free those who have been put behind bars following "false allegations" by CPI(M). "Now things have reached such a stage that law and order has gone to the dogs . The situation prevailing now is dreadful and a cause of concern," she had told reporters in Kolkata recently. CPI(M), on the other hand, has been maintaining that over 200 of its leaders and cadres have been killed by Trinamool and Maoists in West Bengal since the last Lok Sabha elections.
