Regional conclave of I&B Ministry discusses host of issues

New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) Entry of private players in radio through the phase-III of FM and recent initiatives regarding digitisation of transmission facilities were among a host of issues discussed at the first-ever regional conclave of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry held for the Northeast today. The conclave was attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, secretary Raghu Menon and representatives of the seven northeastern states besides representatives of the DAVP, Songs and Drama division and the Press Information Bureau. In her deliberations, at the meeting held in Guwahati, Soni assured the participating states that issues regarding uplinking or downlinking and quality of transmission would be addressed by the recent initiatives of the ministry pertaining to digitalisation. She also mentioned that through the phase-III policy for FM radio, an attempt was being made to invite the participation of private players in the segment. Incentives were being provided to facilitate the partnership of private stakeholders. All efforts would be made to innovate communication tools and processes in order to address the communication needs of the North-Eastern region, she said. The conference also discussed in detail the initiatives undertaken by the media units for the region.
