CBI files charge sheet against BCCL officials in graft case

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) CBI has filed charge sheet against two General Managers and one Assistant General Manager of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd besides besides five other persons for allegedly cheating the firm to the tune of over Rs 65 lakh. The charge sheet was filed against Bibhash Chandra Maji, GM, Eastern Jharia, BCCL, Dhanbad, Tarun Kanti Bandopadhyay, GM, Lodna Area, BCCL, Dhanbad and Subir Ghosh, AGM, Lodna Area, BCCL, Dhanbad. Also named in the charge sheet are five private persons including three directors of a Delhi based Coal Transport Company. The agency had registered a case under various sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on the allegations that the accused persons entered into a criminal conspiracy amongst themselves during the period from April 1, 2007 to February 28, 2009. "In furtherance, thereof, Delhi based Coal Transport Private Ltd Company (an Ex-Servicemen agency) which was sponsored by Directorate General of Re-Settlement, Ministry of Defence, for coal transportation work in the BCCL, Dhanbad managed or arranged false and fabricated documents like bi-annual report among others to cover the deployment of civilians in place of Ex-Servicemen (ESM). "The said firm was allowed to raise monthly bills and was paid over Rs 5.02 crore as against the Schedule of Rates (SOR) amount of over Rs 4.37 crore from April 1 2007 to February 28, 2009, by the public servants of BCCL without observing the laid down DGR norms," CBI spokesperson Harsh Bhal said. He said investigation established that the public servants of BCCL entered into criminal conspiracy with the private persons (Directors of the said ESM company) during the period. "In furtherance, thereof, the said ESM company did not deploy minimum 75 per cent ESM in its employees strength engaged for transportation of coal from Lodna Area-X to JGB Siding No 9 of BCCL, Dhanbad and managed false or fake documents and cheated BCCL, Dhanbad to the tune of over Rs 65.06 lakh by claiming higher rate of transportation charges," the CBI official said.
