NC Hills scam accused in judicial custody

Guwahati, July 6 (PTI) A CBI court today remanded in judicial custody key accused in the development fund diversion scam of North Cachar Autonomous Council R H Khan. The social welfare department employee, whose seven days CBI custody ended today, was produced before the special court and its designated judge A K Das remanded him in judicial custody and directed that he be produced again on July 20. CBI, which is investigating the scam, had sought Khan''s custody after the arrest of his brother-in-law Abdul Majid and recovery of Rs 13.65 crore in cash from his residence. National Investigating Agency (NIA) had filed a charge sheet against 14 people, including Khan, for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore funds diversion scam in North Cachar Autonomous Hills district. Yesterday, Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) ''commander-in- chief'' Niranjan Hojai, a prime accused in the scam who was arrested in Nepal and handed over to India last week, was remanded in NIA custody for seven days. The group''s ''chairman'' Jewel Gorlosa, who is in jail, is also an accused in the scam.
