Kanpur, Jul 6 (PTI) Cracking the whip on food adulterators, the district administration today ordered registration of cases against 42 people who were found to allegedly sell adulterated edibles. Kanpur District Magistrate Mukesh Mesram has ordered the registration of cases tomorrow against 42 traders under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954, City Magistrate H P Shahi said. The decision came after 92 food samples of a total of 547 tested positive for adulteration in a Lucknow laboratory, Shahi said, adding the samples were collected during the state government''s drive against food adulterators during the period of March-June 2010. The majority of the samples showed adulteration in much used items like ghee, ice-cream, besan and spices. Action would be soon taken on remaining cases (50), he said, adding such cases would now be taken up by district magistrates instead of chief medical officers and municipal corporations. The District Magistrate had yesterday said that National Security Act and Gangster Act would be invoked against people involved in such activities. ZIR AVT.
