Chennai, Jul 6 (PTI) Claiming that law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was "deteriorating" and those criticising the DMK were being attacked, BJP here today called for a united fight by the opposition parties against the state government. There was an "emergency-like situation" in the state with the houses of prominent leaders being attacked, BJP state unit President Pon. Radhakrishnan told reporters. "The recent attacks on the houses of Dravidar Kazhagam leader K Veeramani and AIADMK leader P Karuppiah are pointers to the deteriorating law and order situation," he said. Persons criticising DMK were being targeted, Radhakrishnan alleged and appealed to the opposition parties to jointly fight against the ruling DMK. Demanding that the scholarship given to religious minorities be extended to poor students belonging to Hindu community, Radhakrishnan said his party would conduct a state-wide agitation in this regard from tomorrow. On the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, he said the Mahinda Rajapakse Government was keen on setting up its own committee to assess the post-war situation than accepting the one nominated by the United Nations. He asked DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to spell out his stand on the matter.
