Ranchi, Jul 7 (PTI) Two policemen had a close shave today when two bombs planted by the Maoists exploded at Simdega on the first day of the 48-hour Bharat bandh called by the Naxals which evoked partial response in rural Jharkhand but failed to make any impact in the urban areas, official sources said. The low intensity bombs exploded when the policemen went to remove a banner put up by CPI-Maoist. The wires of the bomb were fixed to the banner, they said. The explosion caused minor injuries to the policemen, the sources said. The bandh caused bus operators to suspend their long distance services. Truck operators too stayed away, impacting transportation of minerals in East and West Singhbhum districts, Gumla, Latehar and Loharda. Railways cancelled Tata-Howrah Steel Express, Tata-Kharagpur passenger and Tata-Kharagpur EMU. Railway sources in Chakradharpur said some trains were diverted to avoid naxal pockets and pilot trains are escorting trains in Palamau. Maoists have called the Bharat Bandh to protest the killing of their top leader Azad alias Cherukuri Raj Kumar on July one in Andhra Pradesh.
