New Delhi, July 25 -- The tale this time is not The Face on the Wall, but the lack of it. Freshmen in Delhi University are being welcomed with posters devoid of smiling faces of student leaders on them, unlike previous years. The reason: In 2009, the nominations of seven candidates for the Delhi University Student's Union (DUSU) Elections were cancelled for flouting Lyngdoh Committee regulations, which state that only handmade posters and bills can be used. So, student organisations such as National Student's Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) are taking no chances. Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary, national general secretary, NSUI, says, "We're sticking to posters with the name of the party, asking the students to join us." Others are playing it safe with painted pictures of national icons. "We have put Bhagat Singh's picture because we believe in his ideology," explains Robert Rahman of Students' Federation of India (SFI). ABVP has Bharat Mata.
