Goodwill, Rakshak start campaign with wins

Goodwill Sports Club and Rakshak Sports Club were stretched to the limit by their respective opponents in the 2nd Late Hussain Nabi Shaikh Memorial Hockey Tournament, which kicked off yesterday at the Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Pimpri, needing tiebreakers to snatch victories.Goodwill Sports Club could have edged out their opponents Nasik XI in regulation time when Sanjay Bilose scored in the 34th minute to give them the lead. However, Nasik XI equalised in no time with Anup Adke converting a pass from Tejas Shinde in the 35th minute to send the match into a tiebreaker.Shekhar Parmanand, Sanjay Bilose, Amol Jadhav, Mahesh Bakre and Satish Gaikwad converted their penalty strokes for Goodwill, while Nasik XI only managed to score four times through Anup Adke, Sagar Jagtap, Shivam Palde and Ashish Deokar.Rakshak Sports Club played out a goalless draw against Vikram Pillay Academy 'B', but easily won the tiebreaker 4-1.Karan Shahu, Pramod Shingade, Vinod Shingade and Divekar Kamble were the Rakshak SC players to convert their strokes, while Ajinkya Kalbhor was the only one to find the net for VPA 'B'. His teammates Adarsh Jadhav and Ashutosh Lingesh had their shots saved by the Rakshak SC goalkeeper.In the third match of the day, Kids XI beat Raja Bungalow Sports Club 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal by Samson Samuel. Samuel converted an early penalty corner in the 2nd minute, with Abhiman Jadhav providing the assist.
