Groundnut oil touches new high on strong demand, tight supply

Mumbai, July 19 (PTI) Groundnut oil prices firmed up to a new high in an otherwise bullish oils and oilseeds market here today due to robust demand from local retailers and stockists. Besides domestic demand, higher export enquiries as well as restricted supplies from key producing regions also aided the uptrend, traders said. Elsewhere, refined palmolein moved up on good retail buying amid higher Malaysian advices. Castorseeds bold and castoroil commercial rose owing to better industrial demand. Linseed oil strengthened further on increased demand from paint and allied industries. Castorseed futures also gained on the back of fresh buying from exporters. In the edible oils section, groundnut oil moved up by Rs 5 per 10 kg to Rs 840 from last Saturday''s closing level of Rs 835 and refined palmolein gained by Rs 2 per 10 kg to Rs 417 as against Rs 415 last week. In the non-edible section, castorseeds bold firmed up by Rs 25 per 100 kg to Rs 3,675 from Rs 3,650 and castoroil commercial moved up by Rs 5 per 10 kg to Rs 765 from Rs 760 last weekend. Linseed oil gained by Rs 10 per 10 kg to Rs 525 from Rs 515. In the futures section, castorseed August contracts resumed higher at Rs 3,670 and hardened further to Rs 3,710 before closing at Rs 3,687, as against Rs 3,663 last Saturday, showing a gain of Rs 24 per tonne.
