Chandigarh, Jul 19 (PTI) A high-powered Central team today visited some of the flood-ravaged areas of Haryana with the state government demanding an additional assistance of Rs 346.81 crore for providing succour to the affected people and repairing the damaged infrastructure. The demand was made through a supplementary memorandum submitted to the 4-member high powered inter-ministerial team from the Centre which visited flood-hit areas of the state, Haryana Chief Secretary Urvashi Gulati said. With this request for additional funds, Haryana has sought a total financial assistance of Rs 1346.81 crore from the Centre, she said adding the state government has already submitted an interim memorandum to the Centre seeking financial assistance of Rs 1000 crore. She said a supplementary memorandum has been submitted as two more districts of Fatehabad and Sirsa have also been affected by floods and the earlier estimates have been revised. The amount is required for repairing roads, bridges, houses, bunds and breaches, electrical installations dewatering, compensations and veterinary care in the wake of the floods, she said. Briefing the media after his visit to the flood affected areas of Kurukshetra district, the leader of the Central team and Joint Secretary, Home Affairs R P Nath said there had been substantial loss to fields and infrastructure due to floods. The team would very soon submit its detailed report of the losses caused due to floods to the government after which the quantum of assistance to be given to the state will be decided, he said. Meanwhile, the state government has asked the Centre to expedite the approval to the projects of dams at Diwanwala and Dangrana on Ghaggar river to control the menace of flash floods in the state. Haryana government officials also informed the team members that the case for approval of more dams on Ghaggar river had been pending with the Central Water Commission for quite some time. The Punjab government had objected to construction of these two dams by Haryana. The compensation is very low with respect to the damage caused to houses and fields, the officials told the team. The Central team also had a meeting with representatives of the people, senior officers of the state government and district administration. More PTI VJ.
