Chennai, Ju l7 (PTI) The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to consider a representation for starting a private law college in the state and expeditiously pass appropriate orders taking into account the need and pendency of the matter. Citing a Supreme Court judgment, Justice V Dhanapalan said existence of a college in any area was not an issue but that the requirement be based on serving the population. The Judge issued the directions on a petition filed by the A E Chelliah Educational Trust seeking a direction to the authorities concerned to issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the Trust for starting "Ideal Law College" in Tiruvallur. The Trust also sought a direction to the Law University to grant affiliation from 2010-11 academic year. The state government, in a counter affidavit, opposed the starting of a new private law college on the ground that existing government law colleges at Chengalpattu and Vellore and the two law colleges in Chennai were sufficient for students hailing from Tiruvallur district. There was no necessity for opening a private law college at Tiruvallur, the affidavit said.
