India dismisses report on delay in shipment of newsprint

News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Kathmandu, Jun 24 (PTI) India has dismissed reports that blamed Indian authorities for allegedly holding up supplies of newsprint imported by Nepalese publications from third countries. "Customs examination of transit consignments is a routine administrative measure and the imputation of motives in such a matter by two newspapers is highly regrettable," the Indian Embassy said. The statement was issued yesterday by the Embassy in the capital after The Kathmandu Post and its sister organisation Kantipur daily published reports that Indian authorities allegedly took control of the newsprint imported by it from Canada and South Korea and stopped the shipment to Nepal at Kolkata port. "In response to the request made by the publications, the Embassy had already taken steps to try and resolve the matter at the earliest," it said. "The distorted manner in which the issue has been publicised wont help customs investigation," it underlined. The Nepal Media Society, Television Broadcasters Nepal, Broadcasting Association of Nepal and Community Radio Broadcasting Association Nepal have in a joint statements protested against the alleged delay in the transit of the consignments.
