Maha govt considering uniform power tariff for Mumbai

Mumbai, Jul 23 (PTI) Maharashtra government is seriously considering uniform power tariff for Mumbai city and suburbs. At present, each power distribution company follows different tariffs and charges paid by consumers differ even if they consume same number of units. The problem of different tariff is only in Mumbai city where three power distribution companies supply power to consumers. Elesewhere in the state , the tariff is uniform as power is supplied by state owned Mahavitaran. Power Minister Ajit Pawar told the state assembly today that the government is aware of the problems of the consumers and the matter was before the MaharashtraElectricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). He said the issue of uniform tariff by Reliance Energy, Tata Power and BEST has been discussed in the high powered committee headed by the Chief Minister. There are some legal aspects to the issue and they are being considered, he added. Pawar said the management of Mumbai Airport recently started taking power from Tata Power instead of Reliance Energy and would save about Rs three crore in its electricity bill every month.
