New Delhi, June 23(PTI) Ruling out privatisation, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today said her ministry will follow public-private partnership (PPP) mode for infrastructure development of the largest PSU. Banerjee, while addressing the Railway Consultative Committee meeting here, told the members that the PPP mode will be followed in expanding infrastructure and assets and for creating more employment. Pointing out that many socially desirable projects could not be implemented because of funds shortage, she told the committee that PPP is an instrument of mobilisation for increased revenue from new business opportunities for infrastructure investment. Referring to the Indian Railways Vision 2020 she said there is a need to adopt new vision and new thinking for the development of the PSU. On commercial utilisation of railway land, she said those not required for immediate railway operations can be adopted to set up manufacturing facilities for locos, coaches, and components as also for hospitals, medical colleges and training institutions. The minister further said that employees unions are regularly involved and consulted in major decision making process. Some of the members suggested to focus on basic passenger amenities.
