New Delhi, July 6 (PTI) Central transmission utility PowerGrid Corp today said that the company is planning to invest Rs 2,034.81 crore on expansion over the next three years. The board of PowerGrid Corp, which met on July 2, 2010, gave investment approval of Rs 1,272.80 crore for strengthening of transmission networks in the Eastern region, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange. The board also gave its nod to an investment of Rs 752.64 crore for the northern region transmission system, with a commissioning schedule of 36 months from the date of approval, it said. An investment approval of Rs 9.37 crore for the installation of new equipment at Rajgarh substation in Madhya Pradesh was also granted by the company''s board. PowerGrid plans to invest Rs 55,000 core for adding 37,000 MW of inter-regional electricity transmission capacity in the country during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2007-12). It also targets to augment transmission capacity to 23,400 MW in the current fiscal from 19,800 MW at present. PTI MEG.
