Srinagar, Jul 26 (PTI) Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju, on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, today met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed issues relating to economic development of the state. During the meeting, Abdullah underlined the need of constructing tunnels especially at Zojila on the Srinagar-Leh highway and Gurez in Bandipora for faster economic development of far-flung areas. The Chief Minister said the topography and difficult terrain of the state called for construction of tunnels to shorten the distance and make journeys safe and smooth, an official spokesman said. He also referred to the programme launched by the state government to upgrade and improve road communication facilities in rural and urban areas. The Minister, who arrived here yesterday, assured full support to the state government in its endeavour to strengthen and improve road communication for economic betterment of the people.
