New Delhi, July 19 (PTI) The government today appointed Subramanyam Vijay Kumar as the new Mines Secretary in place of Sheela Nair, who retires at the end of this month. Kumar, a 1976 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, was working as Special Secretary in the Mines ministry. His appointment was cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, an official spokesperson said in a statement. The 56-year-old Kumar takes over from Nair, an IAS officer of the 1973 batch from the Tamil Nadu cadre, who retires on July 31.
