A hot putter and Chapchai Nirat's decision to make swing changes earned the Thai a scintillating seven-under-par 65 in Thursday's BMW International Open first round. The 27-year-old from Bangkok chalked up eight birdies to track early leader Bradley Dredge of Britain, who began with a 64.Chapchai, the 2007 TCL Classic winner on the European Tour, is lying in 175th place on Europe's money list and struggling to retain his touring card.A blistering run of six birdies in the first seven holes at the Eichenried course, though, gave him hope that his season is about to turn for the good."I had seven single putts on the front nine, my stroke was very, very good," Chapchai told Reuters."But my swing felt so much better, too. I have made changes that seem to have worked."Before, my set-up was too open and now it is a little bit squarer it feels very good. I'm hoping to keep this going now."Dredge, trying to win his third title, ran up an eagle and six birdies on an unblemished card to overshadow a cast of higher profile players in Munich."You get the superstars on the European and American tours and probably about another 40 guys behind them trying to get where they are. I'm one of them," the leader told reporters.(Editing by Clare Fallon; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
