Srinagar, July 19 (PTI) The Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, a frontal body of Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir, today demanded a special census for the nomadic tribe who are currently under seasonal migration to the upper reaches of northwestern Himalayas. "Lakhs of migratory tribals have been left out of the census process. We demanded a special census of nomadic and shelterless Gujjars and Bakerwals who are presently under seasonal migration along with their livestock to upper reaches of northwestern Himalaya", Secretary of TRCF Javid Rahi said in a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Rahi said the Centre and state should jointly launch an exclusive programme to conduct a correct and special census of their lakhs of tribesmen under "Shelter less category" as they stand un-enumerated during the process of census.
