Nepal's Vice-President Paramananda Jha seated by his side, Indian 'godman' Kapil Advait, popularly known as Pilot Baba, created a flutter on Sunday when he told a gathering here that huge amount of money was involved behind the 2006 declaration of Nepal as a secular country that ended its identity as a Hindu nation. He said "an influential Nepali" had taken Rs 2 crore to declare Nepal a secular country."I am revealing it now that a sum of Rs 20 million (Rs 2 crore) was given to an influential Nepali for declaring Nepal a secular country when major political change took place in the country in 2006," he told his followers on the occasion of Guru Poornima. He did not disclose any names but added, "I am saying this based on my knowledge. The person who took the money has been an important citizen of this country."The declaration of Nepal as a secular country was made by Speaker Subhash Nembang on May 18, 2006 when G P Koirala was the PM. "I don't make distinctions between faiths, but selling off your religion and culture for money only brings shame to society. Nepal is a case in point," Pilot Baba, who was earlier greeted by the Vice-President at the gathering, said."I am an Indian but am committed to have Nepal's glory restored because it is my Guru dham," he said, adding that he was initiated into sanyas in 1972 in Nepal.
