A large number of women from Garhwal held a demonstration at Gandhi Park here seeking revival of the three projects -- 600 Mw Loharinag Pala, 480 Mw Pala Maneri and 381 Mw Bhaironghati. Led by social activist Avdhash Kaushal, chairman of Dehradun-based NGO RLEK, the women demanded electrification of 1,220 villages which are still using lanterns. The women criticised the leaders and environmentalists seeking closure of these projects. On the other hand, Prof G D Agrawal''s indefinite fast against the project entered the second day today at Haridwar with top seers, including Yoga Guru Ramdev and Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati, extending their support for the cause. Meanwhile, the GRBA headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to take a final decision on the three projects shortly, official sources said. The Centre has already made it clear that it would not sanction any new project on the Bhagirathi river. While, NTPC has already invested Rs 650 crore in its Loharinag Pala project which is being built with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore, the state-run Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited had also done considerable work on the remaining two projects with an investment of Rs 100 crore.
