News posted by www.newsinfoline.com

Jammu, July 6 (PTI) The District Magistrate of Jammu today set aside the conditional order of forfeiture and suspension of publication of three local English dailies and allowed them to bring out their editions. DM M K Dwivedi had sealed offices and printing presses of three dailies -- Early Times, Glimpses of Future and The Shadow -- on the night of July 1 for allegedly publishing "highly inflammatory" material pertaining to the burning down of a religious place in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. An official release tonight said that the publication of these newspapers was suspended by the District Magistrate for publication of news which was not based on facts and as a result, misinformation was spread across the state. To avoid breach of communal harmony and as a preventive measure, the newspapers were closed down and further publication was suspended, it said. The owners and editors of these newspapers had approached the court but no relief was granted. Subsequently they submitted a written undertaking to the DM stating that in future, they will remain careful while publishing news or articles in sensitive situations and will not do anything that can cause any kind of unrest in the society, the release said. They also submitted that they are not interested in pursuing the case, the release added.
