Ranchi, Jul 6 (PTI) Jharkhand governor M O H Farooq today urged management gurus to look for ways to use natural resources for the uplift of poor people. "Jharkhand is rich in minerals like iron, mica, bauxite, uranium and coal, but a large number of people here live in extreme poverty. The management gurus should search for ways to use natural resources for the uplift of the poor," he said after inaugurating Indian Institute of Management here. Describing IIM-Ranchi as a matter of pride for Jharkhand, he said the establishment of the top institue has been an important step in the development of higher education in the state. RC Bhargav, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIM-Ranchi said the institute would be the first to begin Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM). The first batch with 56 students will start class on Wednesday in the eighth IIM -- the original seven IIMs being located in Calcutta, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow, Kozhikode (Calicut), Indore and Shillong. The three other IIMs to be established are IIM Rohtak, Raipur and Tiruchirapalli. The classes of IIM Ranchi will begin at Soochna Bhavan and by the next year it will be shifted to the new campus at Khel Gaon, Bhargav said. In the beginning, faculty members of IIM Calcutta will take the classes of the students as it has been made the mentor of the new institute. The entire faculty would be recruited by the end of the present session, Bhargav said.
