Normalcy returning at Raj village; tribal leader cremated

Udaipur, Jul 7 (PTI) The situation today started slowly returning to normal at a village in the district where tension had been prevailing for three days over alleged kidnapping of a local tribal community leader who was later found dead. The body of Mohan Lal Meena, who had unsuccessfully contested the last panchayat elections at Sarada village, was recovered from under a bridge on river Som in Dungarpur district on Sunday, police said. He was cremated in Sarada today, with a large number of community members in attendance. Meena was allegedly kidnapped by a wanted criminal Shahjad Khan Saradi and his two accomplices on Saturday. The incident had sparked tension among the tribal community, leading to clamping of curfew at the village. Police have arrested two of the accomplices in the crime but the main suspect is absconding. Officials said the situation started returning to normal in the area. The tribal leaders had given a 13-point demand charter to the administration. Local MP R S Meena, MLA Basanti Devi and senior officials were camping at the village where nearly 500 policemen have been deployed.
