This small town girl plays the adult Anandi in Balika VadhuFrom Jamshedpur to Mumbai, how has the journey been so far?I always dreamt of being an actor. Since I am a trained classical dancer, I also wanted to explore dancing opportunities. And Mumbai is the city of dreams. So to fulfill my dreams, I had to step out of Jamshedpur. I have been here for six months. For a 19-year-old, who hails from a small town, living alone and working in Mumbai is quite an experience and difficult too. This is your first TV show. How confident are you and what preparations have you made as an actor?I am very excited. I have not made any preparations as such, but I feel that my theatre experience in school and college would help me a lot. Though TV is a new medium, acting is not new to me. I will deliver my best. How did Balika Vadhu happen? While studying in my first year of college in Kolkata, I had already begun contemplating a shift to acting. So, I sent my resume to the production house of Balika Vadhu. They needed new faces. I was called for auditions and I got through. There were many candidates but I got the highest votes. Ironically, I did not know that they are looking for the main lead. It was only during the final voting that I learnt, that if I win I would be playing Anandi's role.Anandi is popularly associated with Avika Gor. Are you feeling nervous about how the audience would react to your appearance?I am not thinking about it at this point. For now, I am very excited about this role. With your entry in the show, there is also a change in Anandi's character. She is now five years older. How have you prepared yourself for the role?I completely identify with Anandi. I am as chirpy, bubbly, soft-spoken and loving as she is. We both are from small towns. I love the cultural and social norms that Anandi is surrounded by. Her character is not alien to me. So I don't think that playing an older Anandi would be difficult. I feel she will always be the same. What is your parent's reaction to your choice of career?I come from a traditional family, like that of Anandi. But my parents have been very supportive. They know this would make me happy and have given me the chance to explore my dreams. After bagging a role in television, are you aiming for Bollywood? No, right now I am very excited about acting on TV. I prefer it to this way. Bollywood is not on my mind. Besides acting, I am also studying through distance education. So, my hands are full right now.
