New Delhi, Jul 19 (PTI) Calling N Chandrababu Naidu''s arrest by Maharashtra Police as "illegal", a TDP delegation today met leaders of various political parties, including BJP, and appealed them to ask the Congress-led government there to allow the TDP chief to visit controversial Babhli dam site. The delegation led by party MP M V Mysura Reddy met leaders of BJP, CPI(M), CPI, JD(U) and RLD and briefed them about the "illegal" arrest of Naidu by the Maharashtra Police on the border with Andhra Pradesh on Friday. "The arrest is illegal. The TDP delegation was arrested from Andhra Pradesh. They were told by the Maharashtra Police that they are being taken to the dam site in a bus and after reaching a college, they were told that they are under arrest," Reddy told reporters here. He said the delegation met L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), A B Bardhan and Sudhakar Reddy (CPI), Sharad Yadav (JD-U) and Ajit Singh (RLD). Reddy said the leaders told them that the Maharashtra Government should immediately allow the delegation led by Naidu to visit the dam site. The TDP chief and 74 partymen were arrested on July 16 night by Maharashtra Police at border area Dharmabad during the protest over an irrigation project in Babhli. The TDP MP accused Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan of being "adamant" and "fomenting trouble" between the people of the two states. "The state government of Maharashtra is not following any orders of statutory bodies and courts, including the Supreme Court," the MP claimed. He also said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi should intervene in the issue and solve the problem between the two states.
